Looking to visit Show Low and the White Mountains of northeastern Arizona? In addition to gorgeous weather nearly year-round, the town offers many memorable dining, hiking, fishing and shopping spots with nearly endless lakes, parks and trails just waiting to be explored. On top of that, the downtown hosts a variety of charming farmers markets, festivals and events for locals and guests to experience.  Here’s some of our top picks for things to do on your next visit.

  1. Show Low Main Street
    Top of the list for things to do in Show Low, must be Main Street! Aptly named “Deuce of Clubs,” Show Low’s charming main street hosts seasonal farmer’s markets, Battle of the Bands and Vans, July 4th festivities, Trunk or Treat and Santa at the Shoppes events. The farmers market offers free parking and runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 10 – September 20. Vendors offer a range of goods, from regionally grown plant starts, meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, hams, jellies, baked goods and more. It also offers arts & crafts, soaps, candles, pet products, CBD products, pottery, birdhouses, and jewelry galore.

  2. Fool Hollow Lake
    Year-round camping, fishing, picnicking, boating, and wildlife viewing opportunities make Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area one of the most popular Show Low destinations. Fool Hollow’s campsites and fishing cleaning stations are pristine, and other facilities -- hot showers with toilet rooms, ramadas, piers, are always in great condition. Fool Hollow has some of the best fishing in the state and is home to herons, bobcat, beaver, mountain lions and raptors.

  3. Torreon Grille
    The next time you visit Show Low, be prepared for a culinary experience unlike anything else in Arizona’s White Mountains area at Torreon Grille. For lunch try the new Torreon Burger, catch of the day, 49’er (with gluten free option) or grilled octopus. New dinner options including the house-made pastas such as pork ragu, wild mushroom risotto and 3 cheese ravioli are a hit as are balsamic braised short-ribs, pan-seared duck and pollo arrosto.     Buy, sell or trade books at White Mountain Books. It’s a local favorite, with books galore, plus Sweet Soul Honey sticks, candles and lip balm.

  1. Bertie’s White Mountain Café & Donuts
    A Show Low staple, you may be lucky enough to run into a long-time resident or local cowboy. Bertie’s friendly crew serves delicious donuts, breakfast (including a popular veggie omelet and French toast) and brunch starting at 7 a.m. For a special tourist treat, take a seat at the adjacent bar on Wyatt Earp or Doc Holliday’s saddle bar stool.

  1. The House: Known for its craft burgers and gourmet ingredients, visitors can enjoy corn-hole, fire pits, and live music in the restaurant’s backyard.

    Vegetarian friendly with Vegan and Gluten Free options, this Show Low treasure offers delectable bakery sweets and treats, including to-die-for snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies. Their all-day Twisted Brunch and Lunch favorites include Avocado Toast, Tackle Box burrito, Sweet Chili Veggie Wrap and the BBQ Chicken Wrap with slaw and parmesan fries.

  1. Second Knoll Target Range
    The Second Knoll Target Range is an Arizona Game & Fish Range located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in the White Mountains of Arizona. Features a 20-point 100 yd. range, a 20-point 50 yd. range, and four 20 yd. X 25 yd. competition/training bays. Range hours are 9 am - 5 pm during the summer and 10 am - 4 pm during the winter.
    Location: A half mile off Route 60 at the end of Forest Service Road 206.
  1. Show Low City Park
    This is a beautiful park featuring tree identification scattered around the park, plus several playgrounds and fields. It’s a unique workout park that is also wheelchair accessible, plus frisbee golf. Enjoy the basketball court, the playground, the dogs frolicking nearby, or a leisurely stroll.

  1. Pintail Lake/Allen Severson Wildlife Area
    This wetland, known as the Allen Severson Wildlife Area, was created by wastewater management using treated effluent water. The marshes help treat and purify the water, attracting birds and wildlife to a scenic landscape. A well-graded gravel road leads in about a half mile to a parking area. Admission is free. A wide, level paved trail leads to a viewing deck and a blind where one can watch the waterfowl. There isn't a lot of shade, so plan accordingly.
    Location: East side of AZ77/Penrod Road about 3.5 miles north of Deuce of Clubs.
  1. The Show Low Historical Museum
    The Show Low Museum in Arizona is fascinating, offering something for anyone. There is an amazing collection of sixteen rooms, each one carefully designed and with a distinct subject.  The museum has 18 display rooms of quirky stuff from locals, including quilts, military memorabilia, blacksmithing tools and barbershop equipment. Don’t miss the train display room, home of the Silver Creek RR Club.

  1. Show Low Statue: How Show Low Got its Name
    Just to the north of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel is a quiet, peaceful park with a sculpture of the two ranchers who played the famous card game at which the town and the street were named. It’s a fun history lesson, with parking for just a few cars.

  1. The Burly Bear
    The Burly Bear sells quality souvenirs with an emphasis on bears. Specializes in rustic home décor including chainsaw art sculptures, kitchen décor, bathroom décor, and much more. They also offer items online.

  1. Show Low Bluff Trail/Creek Meadow
    Next, it might be time for a leisurely hike along the Bluff Trail, a perfect choice for people of all fitness levels, including those looking for a more relaxed stroll. The path goes through an expansive open meadow, where you might find some noisy frogs, blooming flowers and flourishing plants. Enjoy the highlight of the hike, a bridge over the serene Show Low Creek.

  1. Buffalo Bill’s Tavern & Museum
    After some outdoor activities, it might be time to unwind and enjoy some delicious local food and beer at Buffalo Bill’s Tavern & Museum. You’ll love the authentic western atmosphere and memorabilia. Try the steak, burgers or Friday fish fry.

  1. Ride a Horse at Porter Mountain Stables
    Love horses? Take a scenic trail ride through the beautiful Apache Sitgreaves Forest. Porter Mountain Stables has a knowledgeable and friendly staff who provide comprehensive instructions on horse riding. You’ll feel comfortable and confident before setting off on the trail. It’s a family-owned and operated business that is a staple in the White Mountain community.
