Sunrise Coaster Opens Memorial Weekend

3 Min Read

The new Sunrise Apache Alpine Mountain Coaster, about an hour away from Torreon and Show Low, is designed to take your breath away. Opening Memorial Weekend 2024, families can climb aboard a high-tech coaster and fly down the mountain. They’ll experience heart-pounding drops and turns amidst breathtaking white mountain scenery. The coaster will be available to ride in both the summer and winter seasons.

Riders control their speed in individual carts with a hand brake as they fly down the mountain. Each cart has a top speed of 25 mph, and the carts automatically maintain a safe distance between each other. Young children can ride with a parent. Riders must meet specific height requirements, with a minimum height of 54 inches for a person riding alone and a minimum height of 38 inches for an additional passenger.

In contrast to traditional roller coasters, mountain coasters integrate with the natural landscape, twisting and turning through the mountainous terrain. The Sunrise Apache Alpine Coaster's track is 3,287 feet long, featuring 994 feet uphill, 2,293 feet downhill, and an elevation change of 207 feet.

Owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe, the Sunrise Apache Alpine Coaster is one of only two alpine coasters in Arizona and is the only tribal coaster in the country. The coaster is engineered by Wiegand, a worldwide leader in mountain coasters.
