July 4th in Torreon and Show Low

3 Min Read

Torreon and Show Low are the place to be as summer temperatures climb and the excitement hits an all-time high during July 4th festivities. This year the 4th falls on a Thursday, so many are likely to make a long weekend of it and celebrate from the 4th right through the 7th with a wide variety of activities planned and hosted by the talented Torreon management team.

Those new to Torreon often ask what they should do to prepare for the 4th, and the answer is easy, “show up ready to party” as the plethora of July 4th activities will keep every member celebrating from dawn ‘til dusk. Additionally, the City of Show Low typically hosts an extravaganza on the 4th for those who venture out of the Torreon community. While each year differs slightly, members can count on the following four activities to experience year after year:

  • Torreon July 4th Parade

One of the most popular parts of Torreon’s celebrations is the annual parade. Members decorate their off-road vehicles, pets, bikes and scooters with a wide variety of materials to create patriotic, whimsical and hilarious floats they parade through the community. Awards vary slightly each year, but often include: Most Patriotic, Most Original, Flashiest, Best Music, Best Dressed Pet, Best Decorated Bike/Scooter, Best Spirit, Funniest, etc.

  • Cornhole and Other Competitions

Each year the competition differs a bit, but the celebration typically offers a little neighbor rivalry over cornhole, golf and other athletic endeavors. Fingers-crossed that the wind remains a simple breeze for this year’s competitors.

  • Bounce Houses and Duck Races

Torreon is a family-friendly community, and the team ensures children are included in the July 4th fun. Bounce houses, water slides, bingo, duck races and crafts such as tie-dye shirts have been offered in the past, perfect for kids of all ages.

  • Entertainment & Food

Torreon’s food and beverage team seems to take it up a notch each year. A variety of food and beverage offerings are available for several days of festivities. In the past activities have ranged from lunch buffets at the pool, wine tastings, prime rib dinners, S’mores roasting and more.

City of Show Low 4th of July Parade and Freedom Fest

For those visiting Show Low who aren’t Torreon members, or members looking to leave the community for a few hours, the City of Show Low Wild West parade is also a really special event. The parade typically starts at 9 a.m. but spectators should be there an hour prior to navigate traffic and find parking, as Show Low closes the main road about 1/2 hour before the parade starts.

Then at 3 p.m. enjoy FreedomFest at Show Low High School featuring the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show and fireworks at 9 p.m. (weather permitting)

However you choose to celebrate, remember to be responsible so you can ensure many future 4th of July memories created with family, friends and Torreon neighbors.
